Da mihi, Sancto Iosephmaria deprecante, gratiam quam a Te postulo... (petitio). Amen. Thus ends the prayer on the St Josemaria prayer-card that has just come out in Latin. This is the 57th language into which it has been translated.

For a globalized world
People from all over the world may now turn to God through St Josemaria’s intercession united by the official language of the Catholic Church. This unity is something that resonates especially in today’s globalized world: “Latin is a very powerful link uniting in admirable and unchanging continuity the Church of today with that of yesterday and of tomorrow” (John XXIII, Veterum Sapientia).

“In practice,” recalled Blessed John XXIII, “the Latin language is by its very nature perfectly suited to foster any form of culture among any people. It arouses no jealousy, it is impartial towards all, it does not belong to a privileged few, and it is well received by everyone.”

Young people can use it
Benedict XVI encouraged a growing use of Latin among young people, so that the great treasure of the Church may not be lost, and so that this outstanding instrument may not disappear. On that occasion (28 November 2005) the Pope was addressing Latin students.
