On June 26, Le Laurier publishers brought out a translation of the book Friends of God in Arabic, 34 years after it was first published in Spanish.

The book contains 18 homilies by Opus Dei founder Josemaria Escriva, who takes the various Christian virtues as the guiding thread of his conversation with his Father-God. The book is now available in 19 different languages, including Croat, Chinese and Finnish as well as Arabic.

From a deeply supernatural perspective, Friends of God covers the great themes of Christian spirituality: the greatness of ordinary life, the gift of freedom, the importance of human virtues, humility, detachment, chastity, prayer, faith, hope, charity, apostolate. The language is clear, concise, attractive, and accessible to everyone.

In his Introduction, Msgr. Alvaro del Portillo asks, “What basis, what grounds do Christians have for nurturing such amazing aspirations in their lives? The answer comes as a sort of refrain, again and again, right through these homilies: it is the humble sense of daring ‘of the person who, knowing himself to be poor and weak, knows also that he is a son of God’.”

The same publisher has also brought out other works by the Opus Dei founder in Arabic: The Way, Holy Rosary, The Way of the Cross and Christ is Passing By.
